Our Heritage

A Legacy Passed Down
There are no formal schools or commercial stencils in our lineage. Every technique, from the intricate Kachni linework to the vibrant Bharni colors, was passed down directly through the generations of our family. When my mother paints, she is continuing a centuries-old conversation. A single piece can take hundreds of hours of agonizingly precise labor, patience, and spiritual devotion. When you acquire a painting from this gallery, you are not just buying decor; you are preserving hundreds of hours of human dedication and a sacred Indian tradition.

The Mission
I created Sita’s Canvas to honor my mother’s lifelong passion and ensure her masterful work reaches the true collectors it deserves. This gallery bridges the gap between our home in the Mithila heartland and the global art market, delivering museum-grade, authentically crafted heirlooms directly from her hands to your walls.

For my mother, Madhubani painting is not a profession; it is the language of our ancestors. Born into a family where painting is as natural as breathing, she has been holding a brush since childhood. This art form was never about commerce for us – it is an unbroken generational heritage, painted out of pure devotion, passion, and necessity for our most sacred family rituals, weddings, and poojas.

Through Sita’s Canvas, we are opening the doors to our family’s heritage, offering collectors a chance to own a piece of this living tradition.
